Have Blues fans seen the last of Reece Brown?

With the news breaking earlier that Birmingham City academy product Reece Brown has joined Premier League club West Ham United on a 28-day trial, does this signal the end of his St Andrews stay?

It is nearly two years since Brown made his first league start for Blues under Lee Clark when he was the stand out player in a disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Yeovil.

On that day he showed signs of what great talent he has and that he could handle the pressure of playing in the Championship at such a young age.

However, since then, he has struggled with his progression and has played just 18 minutes of first team football this season.

And, considering that he appeared in a Blues shirt at such a young age, I would’ve expected that he had pushed on and played a lot more than he has done.

A big factor in Brown`s lack of action is, I assume, purely down to his attitude which Gary Rowett has been on record and spoke about.

Last year, Rowett said that Brown had been late for weight sessions in the gym and I get the impression that the Blues first team coaches aren’t all that pleased.

In some ways, this situation is similar to that of when Ravel Morrison was at Blues. He undoubtedly had the talent and ability but his attitude let him down.

For Reece Brown`s sake, I hope he takes this opportunity at West Ham with open arms. He is out of contract at Blues in the summer and any hope of a new contract doesn’t look promising.

I personally would’ve liked to have seen more of the 19-year-old but he clearly hasn’t shown Rowett and his staff that he has kicked on and progressed since his first appearances for Blues.

One thing for sure is that Brown needs to act quickly and knuckle down if he wants to make it at the highest level. Talent alone isn’t enough.

His days at Blues now seem limited and with Charlee Adams now ahead of him in the pecking order, it doesn’t seem like he is anywhere near returning to the first team squad any time soon.

Blues fans, what do you think about Reece Brown’s future? Will we see him in a Blues shirt again? Comment below!
