Dominic Bernard’s loan switch to Aldershot Town can only be a good thing. At 21 years of age, he needs to be playing regularly again, especially after the injury nightmare he is suffered in recent years.
Playing for the under 23s is all well and good, but he was never going to be part of Garry Monk’s first team plans so a temporary switch to the National League should be a good move for all parties.
Fans on Twitter are all wishing the left-back well as he heads out on loan:
Great move for the lad… Next stage of development

Young and hungry for first team football looked good at the friendly at Cheltenham so he should do good for you mate!

Due to his age he's never been given a go, but he looked decent in the u23's etc. Should do well for you

Verdict:
After a year out with an Achilles tendon injury, Bernard has been doing well since his comeback in November, and he was rewarded with a new contract for his efforts.
The step up from the Under 23s to senior football will be a challenge, but he needs to be tested to see how he fares. The physicality of the National League is not in doubt but Aldershot should be a good place for him to learn.
They will be looking to build on their fifth place finish last season so who knows, perhaps Bernard could be involved in a promotion race? We’ll have to wait and see.
Will we sign any more players before the 9th August? Let me know in the poll:
