Good To See Cotterill Back

David Cotterill’s two middle names are George Best and despite being a different nationality to the welsh Wizard that is our Cotts, they are both pretty similar. Well, I have poetic license to claim that they are.

This season has seen Cotterill miss large chunks due to niggly injuries as well as a more long term muscular injury sustained earlier in the season. As a follower of his Instagram, it is clear that he has done a lot of work to get back fit as he posts videos of him and the physio’s doing a lot of work. It really does show how much he wants his starting position back and I am sure that he will be able to fill his winger role soon.

On the left, I am more than happy with Maghoma. I thought he had a wonderful performance against Bolton yesterday, really was impressed not only with his pace and ability on the ball but also his work rate which is often missing from wingers. This shows that we don’t need another first choice left winger as Maghoma has filled that position really well.

In terms of the right side, I thought that Buckley played well against Bolton on the right hand side. But it is clear that he is more of an attacking player, rather than one who is used to being on the touchline for the majority of the game. With Cotterill back in contention, it will hopefully push Buckley to improve his game and that may mean that competition will improve our overall squad.

In terms of creating chances, I’d say that we have missed Cotterill greatly. His partnership with Donaldson cannot be underestimated as it is almost telepathic how well they know where the other one will be. Their link up play shows a lot of time on the training pitch has gone into the attacking relationship, and some of the crosses that Cotterill puts in are perfect for Clayton.

I also think that he gives the team a lift. Other than Robinson, Cotterill is probably the joker of the group. He is always winding players up but this increases the friendly atmosphere in the dressing room which is a part of the game that is often forgotten about. With Cotterill back in the side, I believe that we will get a lot more goals and be much more of an attacking threat.
