Gold has no interest in West Ham

Birmingham City chairman David Gold has put an end to speculation that he was about to bid for Premier League side West Ham United.

The Hammers’ financial security is far from being certain with Bjorgolfur Gudmundsson’s involvement with Icelandic bank Landsbanki who have gone into receivership.

West Ham chief executive officer Scott Duxbury has assured fans that nothing nasty will be happening at the club, but vice-chairman Asgeir Fridgeirsson announced that no more funding will be made available to manager Gianfranco Zola for the foreseeable future.

Gold has been tipped as someone who may be willing to invest in the club who he has supported since boyhood.

But he dismissed the rumours when he told the Sun: ‘It won’t happen. I couldn’t cause more worry among our fans.

‘I demand loyalty from supporters, manager, players and employees so how could I possibly go off and make a bid for West Ham?

‘I can’t and I won’t.’
