‘Going Backwards’ ‘Would be a solid signing’ – Debate Over Signing Ex Blues Keeper On A Free

|

Former Birmingham loanee Boaz Myhill has been released by West Bromwich Albion after an eight-year spell at the Hawthorns.

The former Welsh international played 47 times for us during his loan spell in the 11/12 season. On Twitter, there has been some debate over whether we should look to re-sign him now he’s available on a free transfer:

Verdict:

Much like Rob Green, I would probably decide against making a move for Myhill. At 35 years of age, he may still have the reflexes, but I don’t see how he would be an improvement on what we already have in the squad.

Tomasz Kuszczak is only a year older than him, and while he isn’t a top goalkeeper, he would still be just as capable as being the club’s number two. In my view, if we are going to let the ex Poland international leave, we should be looking for younger replacements for both him and Stockdale to make it worthwhile.
