Goal was just reward for Mr. Reliable

David Davis is becoming Blues’ Mr. Reliable. His equaliser at St. Andrews in yesterday’s derby against Aston Villa was the least his team deserved after an encouraging performance.

But rewind two months, back to a time it was difficult to justify his inclusion in the team. Davis was earmarked as a back up option to the more preferred midfield players.

But thanks to his versatility and robust displays, the former Wolves man has pushed his way to the front of the queue.

While he’s not a natural wide player, Davis can do a sterling job there – as he did against Villa. What Blues lose in width and pace, they gain a determination and protection to the full back.

However, it’s in the middle where the 25 year-old can really make a difference. His competitive edge is a priceless attribute in the Championship and, if Davis can make goals a more regular occurrence to his game, he will be a vital player.

Former manager Lee Clark paid around  £100,000 for his services and it’s turned out to be a very astute signing, considering he replaced Tom Adeyemi who Blues received close to  £1m for.

If any player deserved to drag Blues back into the derby which would have been a travesty had they lost, it was Davis.

Alongside Michael Morrison and Ryan Shotton, Davis is among the first names on Gary Rowett’s team sheet.
