Gary Rowett has finally broken his silence after being sacked by Birmingham City last week. The former Blues boss, who was replace by Gianfranco Zola, was talking to TalkSport`s Jim White.

Rowett said: ‘I was shocked by the news. Obviously, we’d won the previous evening against Ipswich but I had a phone call saying that I needed to go in for a meeting. I got the news there and then which in some ways I was quite pleased about it, it allowed me to speak to the staff and players. I wanted them to hear it from me really because I thought that was the dignified way to do it after they worked so hard for me”.

Rowett was asked to give his thoughts on the appointment of Gianfranco Zola. He said- ‘The club have chosen to go down a different route and that is their prerogative. That what happens if you buy a football club, you can chose to do whatever you want really and I have no complaints about that”.

Speaking about his future prospects, the 42 year-old said- “I believe I could manage in the Premier League. I’ve been coaching since I finished playing at Charlton when I was 30, so I’ve spent 12 years coaching different level of teams and working with players. For me, that is what it is about”. I feel that I am ready for any job. It could be Premier League or League Two, it wouldn’t matter to me, whichever would be the most exciting opportunity”.
