At his press conference on Monday afternoon, Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett admitted to those who were in attendance that it will be a sad sight to see Andrew Shinnie leave the club once again.

The 27-year-old Scotsman is reportedly close to joining Scottish Championship side Hibernian on a season-long loan deal, with only the midfielder holding the deal up at the moment.

When Rowett first came to Blues, Shinnie was the only available number 10 and the former Burton Albion manager praised him for being so influential during his first few months as Blues manager.

‘Shinns has been a great lad for me, he’s a really, really good player, particularly when we first came in – he was a really integral part of that.’

Although it will be sad to see Shinnie leave the club, even though it is only on a temporary basis, Rowett believes that time away from Blues is exactly what he needs and both club and player believe it is best for both parties that he moves back north of the boarder.

‘In principle it’s something both clubs think it’s probably a good move for him, although until it’s done it’s not done.

‘I certainly hope that if he were to go to Hibernian, probably the biggest club in the Scottish Championship, I would think it would be a really good move for him.

‘I would like to think they would dominate quite a few games and he would get lots of opportunities in the final third to show his undoubted quality which we know he has got.’
