Birmingham City are set to name Lee Clark’s successor today after completing their search for a new manager in just 7 days.

Gary Rowett is understood to have accepted the job offer and is to move back to Birmingham to manage his former club in a bid to rescue the side who were beaten 8-0 at home just last weekend.

The club are in the final stages of negotiating his contract and the staff he wishes to bring to the club with him. Kevin Summerfield, Mark Sale and goalkeeping coach Kevin Poole are all to make the move to St Andrews with their Burton boss. All four of the team have played for Birmingham City as players.

Panos Pavlakis deserves a lot of credit here. He put together a tough recruitment process that was not only decisive but effective in finding a replacement very quickly.

The manager was chosen by a recruitment panel put together by Mr Pavlakis and it consisted of two independent football experts (with ties to Birmingham) and two senior members of staff from within the club.

It is also believed that Rowett has received assurances that the finances at the club will allow him to operate in the transfer market in January.

The new Blues boss has his work cut out for him and will take training this week for the first time. Birmingham play Wolves this weekend in a ‘must not get destroyed’ midlands derby.
