Garry Monk contemplates changes for Molineux test

|

Birmingham City manager Garry Monk will contemplate making changes for Sunday’s visit to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The boss confirmed that Sam Gallagher and Craig Gardner have both returned to full training and are being assessed. Both players are expected to at least travel to Molineux as part of the matchday squad.

Jonathan Grounds may start for the first time since tearing his medial knee ligaments during a 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday back in February.

The inclusion of Grounds would see Wes Harding drop to the bench and Maxime Colin returning to his favoured right-back berth.

If the aforementioned Gallagher is deemed fit enough to start, Monk must decide whether to revert back to his preferred 4-4-2 formation – which would almost certainly see Jeremie Boga dropped – or select a more compact shape with the aim of containing Wolves.

Wolves can confirm their promotion to the Premier League this weekend and may even be promoted without kicking a ball if Cardiff lose at Norwich on Saturday.

Blues are stuck in a nerve-jangling relegation battle with four games to play. After Sunday’s derby, Blues host Sheffield United and travel to QPR before finishing the season at home to Fulham.
