Alex McLeish had to admit that his side were not up to their best in the first half of the game after drawing 1-1 with Fulham at St Andrews.

The Blues boss thought that his side showed the Cottagers too much respect but was happier with the second half display in which they hit back in the final preparation game before Sheffield United visit next week to start the new season.

‘We allowed Jimmy Bullard and Danny Murphy too much respect in the first half,’ the Blues boss told the club’s official website.

‘In the second half we tightened up on those two and it was a bit better for us.

‘We didn’t start at the right tempo. We never really created any goal chances and Fulham bossed the first half entirely.

‘The goal was unlucky for young Jordon Mutch. He tried to clear and it ricocheted off to Davies, so it wasn’t really down to dodgy defending. It was just a shade of misfortune.’
