Chris Hughton was delighted with his side after they demolished Middlesbrough 3-0 at St Andrews on Saturday.

It was Blues first win in five games and it boosted the team by leap-frogging Boro and moving back into the play-off places.

The future is now in Blues own hands, but Hughton will be pushing his side to get back into the Premier League at the first attempt.

Hughton told Sky Sports: ‘It was the type of game we needed after our recent matches.

‘I thought it was a real team effort as we have had to change quite a few things recently after getting in some loan signings.

‘It was a high-energy performance against Middlesbrough and we need to take this forward for the rest of the season.

‘We were disappointed with the overall performance at Leicester and against Middlesbrough we had to make sure we had more of the ball.

‘We used our two front players to good effect and our excellent start helped us a lot. Going in 1-0 at half-time gave everyone a lift, with the second goal proving the most important.

‘We are now fourth but it is going to be very tight involving a lot of clubs. It will be teams who have a good period through to the end of the season who will get where they want to finish.”
