Birmingham manager Alex McLeish was left praising Martin Taylor after he made up for an earlier blunder by equalising for Blues and gaining them a well earned point at Barnsley.

Taylor missed his attempted header that would have cleared a Tykes` attack, leaving striker Michael Mifsud the simple chance of opening the scoring.

But he made up for his gaff three minutes later when he was in the opposition penalty area to turn home his first of the season.

‘Martin held his hands up after the game,’ McLeish said.

‘He’s played well in the last few games. You could see he was distraught, but as soon as we got the free-kick he was up and on the end of it.

‘You look for a bit of character in a player and that was a good response from Martin.

‘It was a great relief for him, but for all of us as well.

‘It saved them from getting strangled in the end.’
