Steve Bruce has hailed every single player after the performance against Newcastle last night.

Singling out a couple of players, noticeably McSheffrey who Micky Adams pointed out as a his sale being a reason for his departure I don’t think Steve Bruce has ever sounded so happy before.

‘It was a fantastic result and I’m chuffed to bits.

‘We had pace, power and were full of energy and that’s what I wanted to create.

‘As a manager it doesn’t get any better for me.

‘And we’ve done it in front of the watching millions and given an unbelievable performance.

‘Certainly in my time in management I can’t remember a performance as good as this.

‘I never thought I’d bring a team to Newcastle and win 5-1. Coming back is always a bit special.

‘I know they’ve got a few injuries but so have we, but today we’ve given a fantastic show.

‘We could have scored even more goals because we should have scored three or four in the first half.

‘From 1-11 they were all terrific.

‘But Bruno N’Gotty oozed class.

‘He was playing out of position, but when he was on the ball it never ruffled him.

‘You can see why he’s played for Milan and Marseille and I’m delighted for him.

‘And Gary McSheffrey – what a signing he’s been!

‘I think it’s 15 goals he’s got now which is a remarkable achievement.

‘Cameron and DJ were also fantastic so it’s given me a hell of a problem for the Leicester game with Rowan Vine signing for us.

‘He’ll be watching that and thinking ‘oh my gosh’.

‘But that’s what bringing in a new player does. It puts everybody on their toes.’
