Trevor Francis telling the Birmingham Mail that he would love to be involved in Birmingham City`s future is fantastic news. His name is already etched in the Blues hall of fame and he is one of the true club legends.

A club like Birmingham City do not stumble over many opportunities to create legends. The Carling Cup winning team of 2011 had the chance. Then, as we know, relegation followed as did a mass exodus. Players come and go. Blues rise and then fall.

But in Francis, Blues have a true great, decorated with history, wanting to lend a helping hand. The club should snap his hands off.

So he can`t be accused of eyeing Gary Rowett`s job, Francis made it clear he did not want a return to management. He told the Birmingham Mail – “I would have to point out the last thing I want to do is go back into management. That is not even one per cent in my thinking, I would have to make that very, very clear. All I am thinking of is I would like to be part of Birmingham City.”

Advantages of having Francis in the building include his array of contacts, knowledge and experience in the game. He said- “If I can be of any assistance I would like to be. My contacts in the game, I have got so many people I can tap into.”
