Four players Birmingham City should sell this summer

Over the past two weeks there has been plenty of speculation going round about who could potentially sign for Birmingham City with plenty of names already being linked with the club but there has been less talk of who could leave Gary Rowett’s side this summer.

It is never nice to see players leave for another club knowing that they have given you what they can during their time with your club but ultimately that is what football is about nowadays, players move on and others come in to replace the ones that have just left.

Blues boss Rowett highlighted just after the season had finished that he wanted to bring in four top quality players so I thought it would only be right to suggest four players that could depart from St.Andrews this summer.

1. JONATHAN SPECTOR.

The 30-year-old American has been a fantastic servant for Blues since he joined the club in August 2011 but unfortunately I think his time at the club is coming to an end and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did end up moving back to his home country.

During his four years with the club, Spector has made over 130 appearances, scoring just once, but he has had some fantastic experiences with us including our venture into the Europa League under the management of Chris Hughton.

However, despite being part of some of the best and worst times that have graced our fantastic club in recent years, for me, Spector should now move on and if Birmingham City can receive a fee for his services then I think they should let him go and thank him for his fantastic representation over the past four seasons.

2. DAVID DAVIS.

A very tough one this is because the former Wolverhampton Wanderers player can go through stages of being unplayable but when he has a stinker, it usually carries on for a few games and for that reason I think he may be somebody that could be sold this summer.

Personally, I believe that Davis is a fantastic midfielder and at times last season we wouldn’t have been able to cope without his versatility in the squad but there is only so far certain players can take you in the Championship and I think now is the time for the 25-year-old midfielder to move on.

It would be a tough one for some Blues fans to take Davis moving on but I believe that we would be able to get a tidy little profit off him if he was sold to another club, perhaps somebody like Norwich City or Queens Park Rangers, and I also believe Rowett would be able to do something better with the money that the sale brings.

3. DENNY JOHNSTONE.

A move that is already in the pipeline if you believe what reports in Scotland are saying about the young striker. According to the Daily Record, the former Celtic academy player is attracting the interest of a trio of Scottish clubs, with a minimal fee being discussed as well.

The fee for Johnstone’s departure is yet to be revealed but I can’t imagine it being particularly high, but you never know in football. Personally, I think Blues will be holding out for between £250,000 and £500,000, but I think he will be sold for close to the lower valuation because lets be honest, he isn’t anything too special is he!

In our academy, there are far better strikers, Alex Jones and Ronan Hale the biggest names to mention, and I think next year Nicolai Brock-Madsen will be challenging the pair so it is the right time for Johnstone to leave his English nightmare behind and head back to Scotland where he seems to have found his level of football.

4. KOBY ARTHUR.

The 20-year-old hasn’t really lived up to the hype that was surrounding him a year or two ago but that might be down to Rowett coming in and settling things down. However, I think like Johnstone, Arthur’s time with Birmingham City has come to an end because I can’t see him breaking into the first team any time soon.

For me, once again there are much better young players in the positions that he can play, for example, Viv Solomon-Otabor out wide and Reece Brown and Charlee Adams through the middle. With such a wide variety of young talent coming through the ranks at the moment, I can’t see Arthur making much headway and that is why I think he needs to be sold by the club.

Since Rowett took charge of Blues, the young midfielder has only made seven appearances in all competitions and I just can’t see him making any more so I wouldn’t be surprised if he was allowed to leave this summer for a small fee.

Out of the four players that have been mentioned, I believe the most likely to leave is Johnstone because there has already been talk about it but it really wouldn’t surprise me if Spector left to go and join an MLS side this summer.

Blues fans, out of the four players that have been mentioned, which one do you think is most likely to leave this summer? Let us know in the comment section down below!
