Birmingham manager Alex McLeish has been singing the praises of goalkeeper Ben Foster and says that he has come on leaps and bounds since joining City.

Foster deserved better at Manchester United, he was taken out of the side after being given the chance to shine because of a couple of mistakes in key games.

But since his move to St Andrews he has improved enough to find himself back in the England squad and he has so much more confidence about him on the pitch.

Now it`s time for the stopper to go back to Old Trafford for the first time since he left and McLeish has no fears about him not being up to the task.

He told Sky Sports: ‘I’m sure Ben will relish going back. Hopefully he’s not kept too busy in the game.

‘Sir Alex just felt he couldn’t hold onto Ben any longer and he was bursting to get regular first-team football.

‘It has benefited Ben, without question. He’s been in super form, very consistent.

‘Sir Alex has been in the game a long time. It’s difficult to say he doesn’t make the right decisions with any of the decisions he makes.

‘I’m sure United will be okay in terms of replacing Van der Sar (when he eventually retires).’
