Mikael Forssell has spoken of his delight at being back playing again, and also his optimism for the season ahead with the new look Blues team.

The two goal scorer in the San Pedro friendly spoke to Ic Brum following the match.

‘It’s good to be back playing.

‘I am feeling so much better and it’s just a question of building my fitness up now.

‘It was nice to score, and last night I made a lot of runs and that’s good. I think the players the manager has brought in and those he is wanting to bring in play the ball more forwards and quickly.

‘That was the biggest reason, for me, why what happened to us did last season. We didn’t get the ball to the front quick enough.

‘That’s what I am telling Neil Danns, Neil Kilkenny, to play it to those areas that hurt the opposition as soon as possible.

‘We have players like this who want to go forward, who want to score and create goals.’

Forssell, despite his injury worries was joint top-scorer last season with eight goals.

‘In football, you never know what’s going to happen. Players can be sold and bought. At the moment I have a two-year contract and I am building myself up, I want this pre-season to be good.

‘I am keeping my head down, doing everything for myself and Birmingham and if something happens, then it happens.

‘But the only thing I can really say is that I am staying here and I will try to help get us promotion.’
