Former Premier League man set to leave Blues behind, now let that be the end of it – report

|

The Blues are set to be handed a massive lifeline when it comes to one of their summer targets.

Saido Berahino is on his way to France to go on trial with Nimes Olyimpique, according to L’Equipe.

Whilst it is only a trial, there have been plenty of examples of players in the past having trials at clubs and then ending up not being signed afterwards for one reason or another, it is at least a sign that Berahino is going in the right direction. That direction being as far away from St Andrews as possible.

Whilst he is only 25, meaning he’s got a lot of years to go, he does appear to be a bit of a one-season wonder. He burst on to the scene back in 2014/15 when he got 14 goals in the Premier League, but ever since then he has been on a downward spiral. His best return since then was when he got four goals the next season.

On top of that you’ve got all the off the pitch issues that come with taking on someone like him on. Berahino has been caught for drunk-driving, not once, not twice but three times since he has been in England. There’s only so many issues with someone’s personal life you can handle before just admitting it’s best to cut a man loose, especially if he isn’t producing results on the pitch. That’s part of the reason that Stoke City got rid of him in the first place

I can see why Birmingham would be interested in someone like Berahino, especially when you consider Birmingham’s recent history in terms of finances, it makes perfect sense to get him on a free transfer. It’s a case of low risk and potentially high reward if he can get that goal scoring form back, but that word potential is just far too off-putting.
