June 22nd, fixture release day, and what better way to focus on the new season than picking out five fixtures that I believe will have got mouths watering already for many Blues fans.

There are of course obvious games in there that I will highlight because we all know the excitement that will gather around playing Aston Villa at home on the last weekend in October.

These five fixtures that have been picked out are the ones that I believe Birmingham City fans will most be looking forward to next season, with a selection of both home and away games thrown in there for measure.

FIXTURE ONE: FULHAM, AWAY.

Blues travel to the Cottage on the 10th of September and after being branded one of the best away days in the division over the past few seasons, I believe many fans, including myself, will have already marked this one down in their calendars as a must go to game.

Last season, Gary Rowett’s side claimed a resounding 5-2 victory over Fulham and with over 4,000 fans packed into the away end, it’s fair to say that it was probably our game of the season.

FIXTURE TWO: ASTON VILLA, HOME.

Our local rivals have been put to the sword fairly early on in the season and with the home game being first, it could be a fantastic game and it is sure to be our best home fixture of the season.

Of course the away game will be just as good, but because this is the first time we will have met Villa at home in the league for over five years, it has to be the stand out game during our 46 game season.

FIXTURE THREE: NEWCASTLE UNITED, AWAY.

A ground that I have always wanted to go to but I have never really had the chance, well now comes the time to go and watch from the high heavens. Much like the Fulham game, I think many Birmingham City fans will have this one concreted into their diaries after today’s fixture release because it is sure to be one of the best away games of the season.

The Toon were relegated from the Premier League last season by the narrowest of margins and with a whole host of their big names expected to stay, they are the side that I am currently backing to win the league.

FIXTURE FOUR: WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS, AWAY.

Blues travel to Wolves on the 25th of February 2017 (seems like a long way away doesn’t it!) and like the previous two fixtures away from home, fans and staff alike will be hoping that this game doesn’t end in a 0-0 draw.

This fixture always holds a little place in the history books for me because it was where Rowett took charge of his first game for Blues and it was also when we saw just how important Michael Morrison was going to be for us, and boy he sure hasn’t failed us just yet has he!

FIXTURE FIVE: BURTON ALBION, HOME.

I could have chosen Burton away but there was one reason why I have chosen the home fixture and that is because it is on Easter Monday and it will most like be a sell out away end and close to sell out in the home end hopefully.

Albion gained their second consecutive promotion last season when they won the League One title and having previously been to Burton for a preseason fixture, I know that this game is going to be a cracker.

There is no doubt that some of these games will be subject to change, most likely the Villa game because it is sure to be on Sky Sports, but if you would like to see the full fixture list, head over to the official Birmingham City web page and it will be displayed on there.

Blues fans, do you agree with the five fixtures that we have picked out? Which one game are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comment section down below!
