Five-a-side: Best of both!

In a new series that will be brought to the side every Wednesday afternoon from now on, I am going to be looking at what I believe to be the best possible five-a-side team that has a combination of both Blues players and players from their opponents.

This weeks challengers are Charlton Athletic and even though they are struggling towards the bottom of the Championship, they still have some very good players and it has been tough to collaborate the two teams into one.

We will be looking to get all Blues fans involved with this series and each week over on our Twitter page and comment sections at the bottom of our articles, we will be looking for suggestions as to who you think should be in the next ‘Five-a-side: Best of both!’ article.

The team will be made up of a goalkeeper, a defender, two midfielders and an attacker. If you think we should change this formation each week, why don’t you let us know in the comment section down below.

Below is the team that I have selected from the players that are on offer from each team.

GK: Tomasz Kuszczak.

The big Polish keeper has impressed during his time with Birmingham City and he has produced a number of outstanding performances.

For me, out of the two first choice shot stoppers, Stephen Henderson being the rival from the Addicks, Kuszczak was never really in any doubt that his spot would come under pressure.

CB: Michael Morrison.

Charlton fans know what Morrison is all about with the Blues captain having played over 135 times for them.

Like Kuszczak, Morrison was unrivalled by any Addicks defender unfortunately, but if I was to choose a defender from Charlton, who currently sit 22nd in the league, it would have been Mouhamadou-Naby Sarr as the French defender was part of their side which beat Sheffield Wednesday comprehensively.

CM: Johann Berg Gudmundsson.

The Icelandic midfielder is one of the most prolific wingers for Charlton and I just had to include him in my five-a-side team.

Since joining the club in July 2014, Gudmundsson has scored 13 times in 37 games, which as a second tier player is a fairly good turn around.

As well as having a good goal scoring pedigree at league level, he also preforms when he plays on the international stage having scored five times in 36 appearances.

CM: Jordan Cousins.

Another Charlton player that I think will boss the midfield in this team. At the age of 21, he has already made over 100 appearances for the London club and I thought it was only right he gained another one by being in my side.

There were a few choices that I could have picked from both sides but for me, Cousins was one of the better choices and for that reason I have included him.

ST: Clayton Donaldson.

Despite Charlton having some good strikers on their books, I think there was only ever really going to be one man to fill this spot and that is Donaldson.

Being a mainstay in the Blues team since Gary Rowett has come in, Donaldson has just had his international bow, in which he scored on his debut, and he constantly puts in a shift no matter who we are playing so it is only right that he is in my side!

Plus, he is a natural goal scorer who can also bring other players, like midfielders, into the game.

Blues and Charlton fans, what do you make of my five-a-side team? Who would be in your side? Let us know in the comment section down below!
