After Middlesbrough announced the signing of Gaston Ramirez on a six month loan deal from Premier League side Southampton, the Championship game of dominos has begun.

Birmingham City have been waiting on Aitor Karanka’s side to sign a new no.10 and now that Ramirez has been brought in it will allow Diego Fabbrini to return to his parent club Watford.

The Hornets and Blues are both eager to do a deal for Fabbrini and the Italian, who has one international cap, is also keen for the move to happen.

It has been reported that the fee for the former loanee is in the region of £1 million and £1.5 million and should he make the move back to St.Andrews he would be become the club most expensive signing in five years.

With sources suggesting that this move could pick up speed fairly quickly now, it is likely that Birmingham will allow somebody from their own squad to leave on loan.

Most fans will know that that player is Andy Shinnie, who is rumoured to be on the verge of a move to fellow Championship side Rotherham United.

Over the weekend Millers boss Neil Redfearn confirmed that he was interested in the former Inverness play maker but there were things higher up the line holding the deal back.

However, with Boro confirming Ramirez and the likely arrival of Fabbrini in B9, a move for Shinnie can’t be far behind and it could be the last domino in this three player Championship game.
