Steve Spooner, the academy coach, has his say on the upcoming FA Youth Cup clash against QPR.

The game is at 1:00pm at Solihull Moors’ Autotech Stadium.

Admission to the game is £4 for adults and £2 for concessions and you can pay on the gate.

“It`s a wonderful cup to be involved in and a great stage for the players to showcase their talents,” said Spooner to the official Birmingham City website.

The site adds, ‘Blues kids certainly couldn`t be in much finer fettle as they prepare to take on the R`s off the back of a nine-match unbeaten run in the league.

However, because of this, complacency make creep in and if the team do go behind, this may prove a deciding factor in terms of how they will mentally cope.

“They`ll be no complacency on our part. We`ll approach it as if we`re searching for our first win in nine. The players are very focused and want to go on a good run.’

The QPR team are currently third from bottom in the league, with the Blues’ flying high. Kyle McFarlane was the hero last time these two played each other, allowing Birmingham City to win 6-0.

But because of this Spooner says, “QPR will be eager to gain revenge and you can understand that. We`ll be treating them with the utmost respect, the same as we do any other team.’

However, it is disappointing from a fans and players point of view that it is played on the same day as a Blues’ match. In particular, a home match. A Sunday would have been a better day to raise the profile of development football.
