Birmingham City have had to accept the charge from the FA after the crowd trouble at the home game against Aston Villa in the Carling Cup at the start of December.

Blues were charged with failing to ensure spectators did not enter the field of play after a pitch invasion of celebrating fans after City had beaten their bitter rivals.

The charge has been accepted by the club and an FA hearing will take place on March 28th.

A statement on www.bcfc.com read: ‘The club continues its close work with the police with a view to identifying those responsible for threatening to tarnish the reputation of the club and Birmingham City’s image.

‘Acting Chairman Peter Pannu takes this opportunity to remind all fans that similar incidents should not occur again and is confident we have all learned a lesson from it – both the club and those who breached the rules.

‘Club officials would like to thank the FA for their assistance and communication prior to and during the investigation.’
