Birmingham manager Lee Clark had plenty of praise for match hero Hayden Mullins after he came up with a 71st minute winner against Leeds United on Saturday.

The win, which was just the third home win since the New Year, moved City up to 10th place in the table and things seem to be going right for Clark after an indifferent start to the season.

As for Mullins, he was back in the side after missing the last 19 games but looked like a regular as his experience proved to be vital for the home side in what was the 34 year olds 550th league appearance.

The Blues manager said to reporters: ‘I plumped for experience on this occasion.

‘I thought that the way Leeds were playing with a new manager I just wanted an older head to look after the likes of McCormack and he did it well.

‘I didn’t include Hayden to be the match winner but it was a good occasion to celebrate his 550th game.

‘It was a terrific win so far as I am concerned I’m delighted with the three points and a clean sheet.’
