After the highly entertaining game at Villa Park on Tuesday night, I caught up with young midfielder Charlee Adams, who was one of a few stars in the amongst the crowd.

He was with teenage striker Alex Jones, who joined the club in the summer from West Bromwich Albion, at the time. Birmingham City ladies star Karen Carney was also in with the Blues supporters.

The midfielder, who had a successful spell out on loan at Lincoln City last season, told me exclusively exactly what he thought of the game.

When I asked him what his overall impressions were of the game, he said: ‘Yeah, it was good. I thought we played very well in the first half, but we sat back a little bit in the second half but we still gave a great account of ourselves in my opinion.’

At the time of the interview, the creative midfielder was like all the other Blues fans pouring out of the ground, a little disheartened.

However, he couldn’t help but heap the praise on his team mates for the effort that they put into the game.

I asked Adams whether he thought the changes that Tim Sherwood made at half time caused an upset in the dynamic of the system that Gary Rowett had deployed.

He replied: ‘Yeah! I mean obviously everyone knows that Jack Grealish is a good little player and I think they had more attacking threat in the second half because of the changes.’

Following on from when I asked him about the changes that were made at half time, I questioned him on what he thought changed the game.

Adams said: ‘Obviously the goal, but we had a few chances that I think we turned down. We had a few opportunities to have a shot on goal but apart from that I thought we gave a great performance.’

Th central midfielder also believed that Rowett’s men should take a lot from the game. He told me that things could have gone differently if Blues had taken their chances.

‘Definitely! Without a doubt it would have changed the game completely if that shot would have gone in and then it`s game on again.’ Adams said when he was asked about the Maghoma chance in the second half.

‘But we were unfortunate. Look, we were fighting till the final whistle but the goal just didn`t come unfortunately.’

Finally, I asked the under 21’s star what he made of the travelling Blues fans inside Villa Park.

He said: ‘Me and Jonesy have come with you tonight and it was just a great atmosphere. They are like that week in, week out at the games that we go to.’
