Harry Redknapp is expected to sign a one-year contract with Birmingham City on Friday afternoon and it is then likely that he will begin looking for players to join the squad for next season promotion push.

As expected, there have already been names banded about as potential targets including the like of Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and Niko Kranjcar.

However, Vital Birmingham understand that Redknapp has spoken to 36-year-old former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

As we understand it, Redknapp spoke to the free agent before an interview yesterday afternoon and following reports that the 70-year-old is looking at five or six free agents, Berbatov fits the bill.

Berbatov has been a free agent since June 10th 2016 and should Redknapp sign the former Tottenham Hotspur forward, then it would be his first time in the Championship and his first time with a club for almost 12 months.

Blues fans, would you like to see Dimitar Berbatov sign for the club? Let us know in the comment section down below!

  • You can’t beat quality at any age ,but we must get the right blend of youth an experience …Kro ….

  • Can’t see a single positive side to this rumour. Too old, out of the game for too long. Will never forget when we beat spurs the week after they’d won the league cup a few years ago and berbatov spent the whole match moping around tucking his hair behind his ears. Can you see him playing away at Burton on a cold Tuesday night in February

  • Peter Crouch No thanks Niko Kranjcar why he is old and knackered now same with Dimitar Berbatov past it. I would like to see younger players coming in.

  • Expect a lot of speculation now that HR is here for next season.

Bloggers and writers are wracking their brains to get a list together of what they think harry might be thinking.

As SB used to say. It’s silly season. And there’s no better contributors to silly season than silly people.

  • Crouch is a good footballer and as honest as the day he was born plus he works his socks off and scores goals so i wouldnt turn him away. Berbatov is talented but lazy and has an attitude problem. I can see the sense in having some talented experience in the squad but anyone over 32 will struggle with the pace of the championship and the only motivation would be one last pay packet. We have had too many of them over the years. Young talent with something to prove is the way forward for me.

  • well Crouch is 36 years old same age has Berbatov so yes I would turn him away both past retirement age in football terms especially for strikers. Kranjcar is the youngest at 32 but I would much proffer a 22 year old Jon Toral who is expected to levee arsenal come the end of the primer league season. He stopped Kranjcar from getting in to the rangers side and would love to come back to Blues. KRO

  • Hopefully we don’t go down the road of over aged mercenaries with no future as that is the sure fire way to financial ruin.
