Harry Redknapp is expected to sign a one-year contract with Birmingham City on Friday afternoon and it is then likely that he will begin looking for players to join the squad for next season promotion push.

As expected, there have already been names banded about as potential targets including the like of Jermaine Defoe, Peter Crouch and Niko Kranjcar.

However, Vital Birmingham understand that Redknapp has spoken to 36-year-old former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov.

As we understand it, Redknapp spoke to the free agent before an interview yesterday afternoon and following reports that the 70-year-old is looking at five or six free agents, Berbatov fits the bill.

Berbatov has been a free agent since June 10th 2016 and should Redknapp sign the former Tottenham Hotspur forward, then it would be his first time in the Championship and his first time with a club for almost 12 months.
