Everton have announced they have agreed a fee with Birmingham City for striker James McFadden – thought to be around £5.5million.

Assuming personal terms are agreed and the 24-year-old Scotland international passes a medical, McFadden should be at St Andrews in time for the weekend’s clash with Chelsea.

A statement on Everton’s official site read: “Everton can confirm an undisclosed fee has been agreed with Birmingham City for the transfer of James McFadden. The 24-year-old Scotland international has been given permission to discuss personal terms with the St Andrews club.

“Former Scotland boss Alex McLeish has made no secret of his desire to secure the services of the forward who served him so well during the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign.”

Hibs left-back David Murphy is also expected to be in the squad at the weekend, assuming he passes a medical, after Birmingham agreed a deal with the Easter Road club. He will cost an initial £1.5million, although the fee could rise to £2.5million.
