Even if it’s a gradual thing, at least we’re making some progress – Opinion

It’s been something I’ve been very passionate about ever since the day he moved here.

It’s almost as if I’m on a one-man crusade for change to happen, but I’m used to being on my own when it comes to an opinion so I’m used to it. I’m talking of course about the situation surrounding young goalkeeper Moha Ramos.

When he was brought in, Pep Clotet said that he had plans of him working with both the U23 team and the first team.

However, since then I’ve been slightly annoyed by the lack of game time that Ramos has received, with the likes of Connal Trueman ahead of him for the youth side. It’s been my belief that we should be seeing as much of him as we can. To borrow a line from Homer Simpson, ‘It’s like a rent-a-car, son. You get all the mileage you can, then ball it up and cram it through the mail slot.”. It came to a head on Monday when I questioned the use of David Stockdale over the Spaniard during the U23s match against Bristol City.

However, he returned to the fold for the U23s yesterday against Coventry City in their 1-0 defeat, and he certainly didn’t do anything that would suggest he’s still got some adjusting to do when adapting to British football, because as we know from David De Gea and Heurelho Gomes it can sometimes take a while to get used to things.

Perhaps I was a little bit demanding at first when we signed him, demanding that he played at more or less every opportunity. Perhaps this was the plan all along, to introduce him slowly into the fold as he adjusts to a new country and style of play. However, I would still like to see him get more minutes, first with the U23s and then with the senior side at some point in the season. Perhaps when the FA Cup 3rd Round rolls around?

With both goalkeeper’s contracts expiring this summer, we’re going to need to have someone to stand between the sticks next season, and hopefully it will be young Ramos. But we still need to see more of him in action before we decide whether or not to make his deal a permanent one.

What about you? Would you like to see Moha Ramos get more minutes in the U23s? Or do you think he needs to make the gradual move into the senior team sooner rather than later?
