It is being reported that we have rejected a bid of just £50,000 for left-back Jonathan Grounds.

The defender is believed to be deemed surplus to requirements at the club, but the five-figure offer is said to be well below our valuation of the player.

Supporters were not amused about the club receiving such a low bid for the 30-year-old:

Verdict:

It does surprise me that we are prepared to let Grounds leave. The full-back has been a reliable defender for us, but I do trust Garry Monk’s judgement if he is allowed to depart.

The fact that he only signed a new deal back in January makes his departure all the more surprising, but that contract was not sanctioned by the current man in charge.

If he is available for transfer though, the amount reportedly an offer is nowhere enough. A number well into six-figures should be what we are looking for to sell the defender.

  • Which Grounds are we talking about. £50,000 is all profit. yes he improved in his time he was with us. He would be not be out of place in the conference. Only Jenkinson showed less competence. Yes grateful for the guys efforts on our behalf but times up. Time to go!

  • The comments above are shocking. Grounds has been a reliable 7 out of 10 performer week in week out. Yes he is not the greatest LB at getting forward and has been beaten by better players. I’d say worth at least £500k to £750k. I’d still get the replacement in first before we sell.

  • The 50k offer came from the Vile…planning for next season and need a left back. In Agent Grounds we trust
