Dust Off and Go Again

“Gary Rowett should have shut up shop, not bring Diego Fabbrini on”. “We missed too many chances”. Dress it up however you like, but the reason Blues threw away the lead against Sheffield Wednesday was because of a lack of concentration.

For an hour, it was as comfortable as Blues have been at St. Andrew`s all season. Yes, chances were missed, both Clayton Donaldson and Will Buckley were guilty of that. Yes, in hindsight, maybe David Davis would have been a better option from the bench rather than Fabbrini. But the simple fact is, Blues conceded the equaliser and then panicked.

The defeat should bring us back down to earth somewhat. It`s a sign that, although significant progress has been made under Rowett`s stewardship, Blues are not quite there yet.

Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, were out battled for an hour, but at one-nil, never out of the game – a true sign of promotion credentials.

Gary Hooper made the difference. He added strength and intelligence to their forward line. And if we`re being honest, their equaliser was one of the best goals I`ve witnessed all season.

Now it`s about dusting off and going again. On paper a trip to Rotherham should be what Blues need. But we`re all too long in the tooth to believe that football works like that. The Millers are a side in desperate need of a win, something they have only managed once in eight outings.
