Birmingham City have announced that David Cotterill and Jack Storer will return to the first team squad ahead of this evening’s game against Port Vale at Vale Park.

Storer, a striker who has been prolific for the under 21’s so far this preseason, scored on his first team debut away at Forest Green Rovers on July 16, and Blues boss Gary Rowett labelled the youngster as impressive .

The former Burton Albion boss spoke to the clubs official website about the young striker saying: ‘Jack is in because we’ve been really impressed with him in preseason.

‘He has trained a lot with the first team and has scored goals, which, as we know, are at a premium at present.’

Another reason as to why Storer has been included in the squad is because fellow under 21’s striker and first teamer Nicolai Brock-Madsen will be heading to the Olympic Games next week so Rowett said ‘it just makes sense’.

Blues fans will also be pleased to see Cotterill return to the first team, although he may not start. Cotterill only returned to training less than a week ago and this is the first squad he has been included in since his return.

It is likely that he will play some point in the game, how much, we don’t know, but with Rowett hinting that he will tweak things ahead of tonight’s game, it will be interesting to see how Blues play.
