Wast Hills was the venue to what turned out to be the most action packed game that you will ever see.

The goal scoring started early as a Crewe player headed the ball onto the crossbar only for the follow up to hit the back of the net, leaving Townsend no chance. 0-1 to the visitors.

Amari’i Bell showed his pace in the build up to the equalizer which came shortly after. The youngster drilled the ball into the box for Cooper to hit sweetly. His effort was parried by the goalkeeper. before Cogley managed to squeeze the ball home. Not pretty, but the lads will take it.

Just as the Blues were getting back into it, the referee made a shocking call. A penalty was awarded to the visitors after what can only be described as a dive from Dalla Valle.

The player in question got up, and struck the ball home. 1-2.

Chances were flowing at both ends. Liam Truslove smashed the ball from well outside of the area onto the post with the ‘keeper stranded.
Townsend was having a better day than his opposing number. The Blues captain denying Cooper a certain goal.

1-2 at half time to the visitors but the drama was no where near finished.

A Packwood mistake in the opening exchanges lead to some heroics by Townsend. Again, he denied Cooper a clear goal.

This spurred Birmingham on and in the 54th minute, the scores were again level. This time, it was a clear penalty.

Bell showed his pace yet again to race clear of the defense after Truslove showed great vision to find the winger. The Crewe player rashly took Bell down and it was a stonewall penalty. The youngster picking up a red card too.

Adams, slid the ball neatly passed the keeper. 10 men Crewe were on the back foot now.

3 minutes later Birmingham were ahead. A one two between Brown and O’Neill on the edge of the box had the defense bamboozled and Brown calmly played the ball into the net. A brilliant goal. 3-2 now and a very deserving lead.

The Blues were absolutely dominating the game now. Bilal Yafai, a trialist, came on in this period and he was shooting at will. His first attempt was a volley that just missed.

The next goal came entirely with the run of play. Bell, again, caused trouble with his speed and power. He left the defense just watching as he stamped his way through. Truslove and Bell showing to be a real partnership. 4-2.

But Bell, for all his attacking qualities, proved that he cannot defend. With quarter of an hour to go, he upended the striker to give Crewe a penalty. A clumsy challenge.

The taker stepped up looking confident, but Townsend received the bragging rights. He dived to his right and pushed the ball to safety. A remarkable save.

With ten minutes to go, Townsend was beaten. The ‘keeper could do nothing about Saunders powerful strike. 4-3.

Despite the huge amounts of pressure Crewe exerted in the next few minutes, another red card but a stop to their hopes of a comeback. Charlie Cooper was getting stuck in and this didn’t go down well with the opposition. A kick and a push later, the Crewe man went for an early bath.

The game finished 4-3, with 3 penalties and 2 red cards.
