Colin Doyle is hoping Millwall boss Colin Lee will choose to extend his loan spell at the club past its Saturday deadline.
Lions keeper Andy Marshall is still struggling with a knee injury, and the twenty year old Irishman is hoping that he can continue playing first-team football for the south London club.
‘Being stuck in the reserves at Birmingham was not nice,’ he told Millwall’s official site. ‘Coming to Millwall meant playing first-team football and I jumped at the chance.
‘At the moment I’m here until after the Reading game but I hope to extend the deal. This is so much better than playing in the reserves.’
An extended deal would suit both parties, with Blues benefiting from the first team experience Doyle would receive, whilst Millwall have an extra goalkeeper and will not have to resort to emergency loans as they did to bring in Chelsea’s Lenny Pidgeley to face Blues in the Carling Cup – a match in which Doyle could, for obvious reasons, not play.
However, it is likely Blues would insist on a recall clause in case of injury to either Nico Vaesen or Maik Taylor.
