Steve Bruce has been touted as the potential next England manager by Dave Kidd (Mirror) over the likes of Gary Neville and David Beckham.
Bruce was famously over looked during his career to play for his country. Despite a doubling winning season for Manchester United, even that was not enough. Well Kidd say`s after 16 years in management it is time he breaks through to the England set up.
Kidd says that Bruce has managed to sustain success, unlike Pardew at Newcastle for example. Winning automatic promotion and then a midtable finish; coupled with an FA cup final makes for an impressive CV.
It is also mentioned how well Bruce managed the whole Hull name change saga whilst managing to keep both the board and the fans on the teams side. During that season he managed to record his highest finish yet.
Credit is also afforded to him for managing to remain under Sullivan, Gold and Brady for as long as he did, whilst his record as Blues boss holds up against the rest in recent memory.
As a final point, Steve Bruce actually has a better record as Wigan manager than the much loved Roberto Martinez according to Kidd, an interesting statistic.
Come the time there is another change in England management Bruce may well be in the running should the FA continue to seek experienced and measured managers. With the next tournament two years away, a lot may change in terms of hats in the ring.
