Diego go. Diego stay.

If reports are to be believed, Diego Fabbrini may not be a Blues player for much longer. The Italian has struggled to force his way into the team on a regular basis since signing from Watford in a £1.5m deal this summer, Blues’ biggest transfer lay out for half a decade.

According to the Daily Mirror, Blues are looking to offload the playmaker who is currently on compassionate leave following the death of his grandmother.

Losing Fabbrini, a player of such high quality, would be a mistake. Despite not playing the amount of games we all expected him to, the 26 year-old is a positive option, albeit from the bench.

He is better suited to last seasons 4-2-3-1 formation as a number ten. And although Rowett doesn’t use that shape often these days, and when he does, Che Adams gets the nod, Fabbrini could still play a massive part in the outcome of the season.

You can’t be successful with only eleven players. So why get shot of one of out most naturally gifted? It doesn’t make sense.

Pretty soon, Rowett will clarify whether these reports have substance. But if his intention is to keep hold of the Italian, at least until the end of the campaign, he should find a way of getting him on the pitch.
