Birmingham City have today announced their second signing of the summer transfer window with Derby County defender Ryan Shotton joining the club on a three-year-deal.

The 27-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell with Gary Rowett’s side towards the back end of the 2015/16 season, making nine appearances in all, scoring a single goal for Blues.

At the end of the loan spell, both parties, Blues and Shotton, both stated that they would like to be reunited when the new transfer window opened and after weeks of intensive talks between the two clubs, a deal has finally been agreed and the former Stoke City defender will now be at the club until 2019.

Shotton has signed just in time to head off to Marbella with the rest of the Birmingham City squad with Blues boss Rowett having a high intensity, warm weather training camp prepared.

The new signing will be joined by another former Blues loanee, Robert Tesche, who also resigned for the club last week after being chased for over 12 months by Blues.

It is believed that Shotton will play the majority of the new campaign at centre back, partnering up with captain Michael Morrison in the heart of the defence.
