It is essential that Birmingham don`t lose their young players to evolve into a strong side in the next few years and one of the prized assets to hold onto is 18 year old Demarai Gray. Since Demarai Gray broke onto the scene last season for Birmingham City he has been seen as the next big thing.

The Birmingham born star has begun to feature in manager Lee Clark`s plans consistently this league campaign, he shares many attributes similar to former winger Nathan Redmond and it is very comforting that manager Lee Clark has come out and said that no matter what happens Gray will stay at the club.

Gray who won last season`s Academy Player of the Season award has great pace and trickery and clearly has an eye for goal. When he builds up his strength and gains experience from playing in the first team he can only improve further and could easily be a Premier League player in the future.

The midfielder aswell as team mate Reece Brown were voted into the ‘Top 10 Football League stars of tomorrow` by Four-Four-Two magazine and increased publicity of the player can only increase his confidence that he can make it as a top player.

After losing academy graduates Jordon Mutch, Nathan Redmond and Jack Butland over the last few seasons for relatively low sums of money, it would be a real shame to see another home-grown talent in Gray leave the club; I hope the Birmingham board do all they can to convince the England Under 19`s winger that his future lies at Blues for at least the next few years and he can carry on developing into a big talent.

Demarai Gray is a star for the future but with Birmingham`s financial situation the youth has had to be thrown into the deep end earlier than expected but for this winger it seems that he has taken this step up in his stride and Birmingham fans can look forward to seeing him race past defenders for many years to come.

Note: Demarai Gray has been rumoured to be the subject of a first option agreement between Birmingham and Liverpool. We don`t think this is the case and even if it is, Birmingham would still have to accept an offer for the youngster, which is unlikely.

The deal simply guarantee`s Liverpool a seat at the table should Blues let Gray go. Again, we don`t think there is any evidence, yet, of an agreement being in place.
