When Birmingham City signed Ryan Shotton for a reported £300,000 in the summer, little did he know that the game everyone has been waiting for would fall on such a special day for him.

Originally, when the fixtures were announced, the game against local rivals Aston Villa was scheduled to be played on the 29th of October rather than the 30th.

That would have meant that Shotton would have been able to enjoy his Sunday in peace and relax with family and friends after what will hopefully be a successful weekend.

However, he will now be stepping out onto the hallowed turf of St.Andrews on his birthday.

The summer signing for Derby County will turn 28 on Sunday and a result against the Villa would prove to be just that little bit sweeter for him because it would be an extra birthday present.

Heading into the game, Blues fans certainly haven’t strayed away from the fact that they are nervous, with 38% of 127 votes on a poll on Twitter stating so.

Along with others, I am also very nervous and anxious about the game because of the meaning behind it but I am sure that the squad will do everything they can to win the game, or at least pick up a point from it.

If it is won, then it will certainly be a birthday that Shotton will remember for the rest of his life.
