December, a time for giving, a time for sharing and creating memories with friends and families and even football clubs! But that is not how Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett will be looking at it.

His side face six very tough fixtures over the Christmas period and at the end of the month it will show the Blues boss just where he needs to add to his side as they prepare for the gruelling build up of trying to get into the play-off spots.

With the games shared evenly between home and away fixtures (three each), Rowett will be slightly pleased with the balance that his side have received this year but with tough games against Newcastle United, Derby County and Brighton and Hove Albion, many fans can be forgiven for thinking that Blues may struggle to pull through the month.

However, as well as December being an indicator to Rowett as to where he needs to strengthen in January with the money that he will receive off new owners Trillion Trophy Asia (TTA), it will also show him just where his side will be in the table having taken on three of the contenders for both the play-off spots and the automatic promotion places as well.

Newcastle currently sit top of the table, Brighton are just behind them in second and Derby are in ninth but are only three points away from sitting in sixth.

All three are likely to push Rowett’s side to the edge of their limits but in recent weeks we have seen that Blues are able to under-perform so to say and still grind out results, something which you need to stay in the race for a play-off spot in my opinion.

But with the feeling in my gut that we may fair better against the so called tougher sides like the Magpies, Seagulls and Rams, I am slightly more concerned about our games against Barnsley (home and away) and Ipswich Town.

It has been well documented that over the last two years Blues have struggled to pick up results against teams like the Tykes but with more resilience this season, could that so called hoodoo be put to be? You tell me!

In what looks like it could be a very difficult month for the club, here are the results that I think we will pick up in the next six games….

Barnsley (December 3rd, home) – 2-0 win.

Newcastle United (December 10th, away) – 1-0 loss.

Ipswich Town (December 13th, home) – 2-1 win.

Brighton and Hove Albion (December 17th, home) – 2-2 draw.

Derby County (December 27th, away) – 1-1 draw.

Barnsley (December 31st, away) – 3-1 win.

If my predictions come true, Rowett’s side will pick up 11 points from a possible 18 in December, a total I believe most would be happy with.

Blues fans, if we picked up 10+ points in December, would you be a happy bluenose? Let us know in the comment section down below!
