Debate: Did this man’s display against Wigan do enough to convince you he deserves more games?

Presenting, the case for the defence.

The Blues were nailed on for a clean sheet until Lee Camp let the ball through his body, and there’s a certain part of the defence I want to talk about, our loanee from Chelsea, Jake Clarke-Salter.

The Birmingham Mail gave him this review in the game against Reading, which I think was a fair reflection of his performance:

“Blues didn’t really miss Roberts from a defensive point of view although Clarke-Salter didn’t have much joy in the air against Moore. He did some good sweeping up behind Pedersen. Looked slightly laboured as he limped off at the end.”

And he also received glowing praise from the boss, with Pep Clotet saying:

“He played with a lot of maturity. He was very focused. He dealt very well with the physicality of the game. Jake worked very well with Harlee Dean too. He’s quick, he covers the lines well, and with the ball he was good. It was a positive game for Jake, I’m happy for him.”

Whilst he did have to come off in the 83rd minute as a result of ‘cramp’ according to Clotet, he certainly didn’t do anything for me to think that he should be dropped from the team for good. He did some things well, some things not so much. Overall I don’t think he disgraced himself.

It’s a bit of a fine balance with him, we have clearly brought him in for a reason, but he has found time hard to come by since his move to B9. He only made the one appearance before Tuesday, in the defeat to Portsmouth in the Carabao Cup. So he’s obviously had to work hard to earn his chance, and in my mind has earned another shot. But this isn’t about my views on him, this is about yours.

What about you? Do you think that Clarke-Salter did enough to keep his place in the side? Or would you rather we go for someone more experienced in the future?
