Deadline day is here, what do we expect to be happening at St Andrew’s? – Report

|

So, are you guys all ready for today?

I’m not sure if I am, but I wouldn’t be in the right business if I wasn’t at least looking forward to it.

What can we expect to happen on the final day of the summer window for Birmingham City? According to Pep Clotet speaking after the defeat to Portsmouth, he is ‘very positive’ that additions will be made today.

So what are the stories that will be dominating the agenda before the clock strikes five?

The most obvious one would have surrounded George Puscas. Things took a little bit of a twist last night though, as he instead signed for Reading. Whilst they’ve now missed out on their main target, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of them going after someone else. They wouldn’t have accepted a bid for Isaac Vassell if they weren’t confident of getting someone else in. Whilst they did sign Alvaro Gimenez, there’s still room on the depth chart for another frontman alongside Lukas Jutkiewicz, so I’d expect some sort of movement in the forward area.

Now that the Fran Villalba deal was completed last night, I would expect a quiet day on the midfield front. With the introduction of Ivan Sunjic and Agustin Medina as the key additions to the team, there shouldn’t be any more ‘big names’ coming through the door

In terms of departures, I honestly can’t see there being many permanent moves out of the club.

With the exception of Vassell, there haven’t been many concrete links for players making a move away from St Andrew’s, so unless something drastic happens, there shouldn’t be many ‘we wish him well in his future endeavours’ kind of messages.

There’s always a chance for a few youngsters could go out on loan, I’d personally keep my eye out on Corey O’Keefe. With Maxime Colin signing a new contract, it might be worth him getting some experience elsewhere before competing for a first-team spot next summer.

I feel it’s also important to note something, because it bugs me every year. Even if you hear from elsewhere that a deal had been ‘confirmed’, don’t start shouting at people on social media to ‘ANNOUNCE HE’S SIGNED’. These things take time; they’ll announce it when they’re ready. Just because they haven’t been announced by the 5 pm deadline, doesn’t mean that it hasn’t gone through. As Ivan Sunjic’s ‘international clearance’ situation proved, a lot needs to happen before we can officially rubberstamp a deal as confirmed.
