Daylight Robbery at Elland Road

Leeds Untied should be ashamed of themselves. Ticket details for Blues` trip to Elland Road were revealed yesterday and, scandalously, Blues fans will be charged £37 for an adult ticket.

While Premier League clubs cap their away prices at £30, how can Leeds get away with charging just short of forty-quid for a Championship game? The fixture isn`t a local derby, it has no extra significance to either club, yet genuine fans have been priced out of attending.

A Leeds fans told me on Facebook “try being a Leeds fan. Every club we go to charges a fortune because they know we bring the biggest group of fans to away games”. Maybe so. But Leeds have overcharged the away fan at Elland Road for many years now – they even charge their own fans £41 in some areas of the stadium.

The Football League should follow the example set by the Premier League and cap ticket prices. Traditionally, Football is a working class game but many now cannot afford to watch their team.

Take Blues` trip to Wigan as an example. An adult ticket will set you back £20. A decent price, but affordable. And to encourage as many Bluenoses to attend as possible, Blues have teamed up with 888 Sport to provide eight free coaches. Unfortunately, things like that do not happen very often.

Leeds United should be reported to the Football League. But in all honesty, nothing will happen until fans vote with their feet.

And before anyone points out that Blues are charging up to £35 for the Wolves game, I`m already aware and I am equally as unhappy about that. But it is more understandable considering it is a local derby. It doesn`t make it right though.

Football is nothing without fans.
