It all got slightly worrying when other clubs began sniffing around David David but, with his contract up the end of this season, Blues have today rewarded him with a new three-and-a-half year deal.

I think it’s fair to say that Davis has been one of our star performers to date this season and he’s become a crucial member of the current squad.

He’s fully deserved of this new deal due to his performances this season and, even when he has been asked to play out wide under former boss Gary Rowett, he has still shone above others.

It looks like Gianfranco Zola is preferring him in his more natural central midfield position and I think this new deal shows that he has a huge part to play under the new regime.

The commitment, athleticism and physicality that Davis shows is second to none and we have also seen an improvement in the technical side of his game this season.

He looks a lot more comfortable with the ball at his feet and working under Zola should only improve this.

You could tell that he spent most of pre-season working extra hard to ensure that he was going to be better than his opponents and it’s clear to see that he is a class above others in the physical element of the game.

I would suggest that he is one of the first names on the teamsheet which is testament to him and the work he has put in.

Davis` performances have also helped make him a fan favourite at St Andrews and his goal against Aston Villa earlier in the season was a moment that we won’t forget and one that he deserved.

Hopefully he can continue to kick on, without speculation about his future, and help Blues get back into a positive run of form and push towards that top six.
