I thought this would happen after comments by Chris Hutchings, assistant boss at Wigan, Birmingham City co-owner David Sullivan has accused Wigan Athletic of making an illegal approach.

We reported last week, Hutchings told Manchester Evening News: ‘We are interested in Heskey and we plan to be very active in the transfer market over the coming weeks.’ Adding ‘There’s a lot of paper talk right now but I’m sure quite a lot of new faces will be here, come the start of the new season. We have people at the World Cup looking at players, we have targets in mind and we’re going to be very busy.’

And I commented: Not sure he should be talking about a player who is contracted to another club, whether they are interested in putting a bid in or not?

Now Sullivan has said: ‘What has been said by Wigan does amount to an illegal approach. It is unacceptable that they are trying to unsettle our players and we have made it clear they cannot carry on doing this.’

This story looks like it will go on and on. Wigan basically need to put up (and bid) or shut up.
