Birmingham City winger David Cotterill has admitted that he is hopeful of signing a new contract with the club in the coming weeks.

In an interview with the Birmingham Mail, Cotterill expressed his desire to get the deal over the line, after recent speculation linking the Welsh winger with a move to Cardiff City.

He said: ‘We have been discussing for a while, probably a few weeks now, we’ll just have to wait and see with what’s going on with those things.’

‘The manager wants me to sign’ he continued.

Should the instrumental wide man secure his new deal, he will become the seventh first team player to sign a contract extension with the Blues.

Clayton Donaldson, Demarai Gray, Andy Shinnie, Jonathan Grounds, Paul Caddis and Stephen Gleeson have all signed new deals with the club and it is expected that Cotterill will sign a new two year deal with Birmingham City.
