Crowley signing has created the spark that was desperately needed. (Opinion)

Blues new midfield signing Dan Crowley has certainly lifted the spirits of supporters and players. The two goals and as many assists in our friendly against Swindon Town augers well for the coming season.

Impact is vital at Blues whoever comes in and it looks like Crowley has slotted in immediately, very similar to Keifenbeld when he first arrived at the club.

Jude Bellingham, who played in the second half also caught the eye and again showed his class.

Vassell was another who played with purpose and skill which will have pleased the coaching staff and raised the hopes for a decent start to the season.

Getting a striker in is, in my opinion, the next priority together, if possible with a replacement centre back for Morrison.

Formations and plans have been debated recently so what will be,will be. However the ‘Crowley’ lift is interesting as it currently reflects our stance in the transfer market. Championship competitors appear to be spending big and desperately trying to reach the Premier League and all its riches whereas we have spent big in recent years with colossal wages and agents fees etc.only to succumb to misery and a whole lot of trouble.

This new regime, albeit under the baton of Ren, is in a completely new orbit and this latest acquisition of Dan Crowley has been greeted warmly by our supporters. Perhaps we as a club get easily pleased by incoming players, but I feel this is different in the case of our new midfielder, as something about him has resonated, certainly not the meagre fee we have paid- but the overall package he brings with him, mainly wanting to come and keen to make a difference.

Yesterday, although only a match against Swindon, gave him a platform and boy did he take it on. Days of expensive players, managers running the club and agents doing well are over at the moment. Should Clotet and Ren deliver this season then fair play to them and the start they made by the first ‘new signing’ in Dan Crowley looks promising. Damien Johnson was once bought for a snip and is still a cult hero. Who knows with Dan.
