Birmingham City manager Gary Rowett has highlighted over the course of the few intense weeks of preseason training that the club have already gone through that he is actively looking to bring in a left sided winger and after some consideration, I think I have found somebody who would be perfect for Blues.

Currently with Tottenham Hotspur and formerly of West Bromwich Albion, Alex Pritchard looks set to leave the London based club on loan once again this season and I believe he would be just the sort of player who would shine under the guidance of Blues boss Rowett.

The 23-year-old wide man spent the 2014/15 season out on loan at fellow Sky Bet Championship side Brentford and he thrived in what was only really his first full season in a first team set up.

Despite it being the first season he played out in full, making 47 appearances in the league for the Bees, Pritchard seemingly over-achieved scoring 12 goals, which for a man who had relatively no first team experience was phenomenal.

For me, although Blues do have some very good young players who are looking to break through, Pritchard would trump all of those and I believe he would also surpass the impression that Jon Toral had on the team last season.

I know you are all thinking, but wait, he wouldn’t play because we have Jacques Maghoma out on the left and Viv Solomon-Otabor waiting in the wings so why bother bringing him in? Well, the Essex-born winger can play on either side which means he would be a great option for Rowett to have considering the fact that the club aren’t overly sure where David Cotterill will be next season.

Although his last loan spell didn’t work out very well for him at Blues’ Midlands rivals West Brom, that doesn’t mean that Spurs aren’t object to sending him out once again and with their squad getting stronger and stronger and with the addition of winger Georges-Kevin N’Koudou expected to happen over the next week or so, a move away is more than likely to happen.

Personally, I think Pritchard is the sort of player that Blues need in order to challenge the top teams in the division and if we could bring him in, he might be the difference in making the play-offs next season and just missing out on them.

Under the management of Rowett and his staff, I think Blues would be able to bring the very best out of Pritchard if he was brought into the club and I am sure we would see the benefits of once again having a Premier League player in our squad.
