“Could have something to offer”: Brian Dick maintains veteran doesn’t have to be binned by Blues

|

Still got some miles left in those legs.

That seemed to be the message that journalist Brian Dick wanted to get across when analysing the recent displays of the club’s veteran, sometimes controversial goalkeeper Lee Camp.

Writing for Birmingham Live, Dick outlined precisely what he thinks the 35-year-old stopper’s future needs to be at St Andrew’s, and how although he might be out of contract in a few weeks’ time, that doesn’t mean he necessarily needs to be shown the exit door.

“If these are to be Camp’s final half-dozen appearances for Birmingham City, he will leave with reputation enhanced – which judging by the initial reaction to his signing in the summer of 2018 probably wasn’t too hard. Camp has had his troubles at Blues – and was rightly dropped earlier this season – but he’s playing well right now. The position definitely needs an upgrade in the transfer window but he could have something to offer the department beyond this term.”

Should Camp still be with the club next season?

Yes

No

This sort of goes back to what I was saying a couple of months ago, even though I have been highly critical of him at points this season, he has come into his own in recent months and has shown that he can still offer something even in his later years, the double save at the weekend is probably a very good example of that.

But that doesn’t mean we should be relying on him going into next season and beyond that.

It says something about the faith that the club has in him by the fact they are looking at goalkeepers to bring in this summer, but if we can keep Camp as a veteran backup, someone who can we play in the occasional cup game to give the new established number one the odd rest, then it wouldn’t be the worst decision in the world in my mind.

What about you? What do you think we need to do regarding Camp’s future at the club?

its a no brainer give him another year as I personally think he deserves at least another 12 months . He is under rated
