Luke Turner has his say on the recent form of David Cotterill…

It’s never nice being jeered as a footballer and to hear your own fans do it to you must be even worse.

That’s just what David Cotterill has had to endure for the past few weeks after some below par performances.

Now, we all know that Cotterill can be frustrating and he isn’t one to go flying into challenges. This makes him look disinterested and you can understand the frustration of the fans.

He can also come up with that one moment of magic to win the game for you and he is our best provider of goals through his expert crossing ability.

His performances at the start of this season haven’t been good enough and I think that receiving criticism and being dropped by Gary Rowett has done him the world of good.

His last two displays for us have been excellent and he really reminded us of what he is capable of doing and how important he is to us.

Two assists in two games is hard to grumble at and he came close to scoring in both games, hitting the bar and post.

Something particularly noticeable was his desire to get to balls first and help out with the defensive side of the game.

He looked like he wanted to have an impact on the game and he was determined to give his full back a tough game.

There’s no doubt that his performances deserved to be criticised but booing him? I think that was too far.

He does, however, seem to have responded to it and, if he can continue to put in performances like he has done over the last two games, then he will be a crucial player for us this season.
